Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head Brewery, one of the most well known American brewers, came to the brewery in Borgorose Italy, to create a special collaboration beer with Leo and the Borgo crew. First they picked a style, But obviously not a regular one…it had to be stronger than usual, and it had to be hoppy!. Leonardo chose the malt: Pilsner and Cara-Pils plus 1 of the hops Saaz, and then Sam chose the two additional hops, Simcoe and Warrior. Before the boil Sam mixed the hops creating a wonderfully perfumed potion. Once the mix was ready we started hopping. A fistful of hops added every minute for 60 minutes…The result? My Antonia…An intriguing beer, extremely perfumed, where floral and resiny notes mix together. The mouthful is explosive but balanced at the same time. The honey notes from the malts and the peppery ones from the hops mix in a very elegant and precise finish.

The hops are different especially in the quantities, what changes most though is the technique of using hops. All hops are used in the last 10 minutes of boiling, in an amount 3 times greater than the ReAle. The result is an explosion of citrus scents. In a dry mouth, It starts bitter then gives way to a beautiful hint of mandarin orange that is extremely persistent. Addictive!

The use of 55% of the enkir cereal grain (Triticum monococcum), in product is the lead actor driving the taste and colour of this beer. This ancient grain the first domesticated on the ground, gives the beer some wonderful resinous and spicy notes that blend well with notes of fruit with yellow flesh. Beer well balanced, delicate and soft in the mouth.

Actually, Prunus is so called after the cherry’s bothanical name, Prunus Avium or Cerasus according to variety. About 20% of fresh cherries with their stones were added to their spelt beer Duchessa . Differently from the typical Belgian kriek, it is not too sour as it keeps some of the Duchessa’s smoothness. Yet it’s also not sugary like you'd expect, thanks to the well balanced bitter aftertaste.
With its 5.8% ABV and its bright red color, Prunus is the perfect choice to start celebrating the New Year… and never stop for the following 12 months!

In this case, of course, they started in Scotland. They changed something in the recipe of our full-bodied, intensely hopped Pale Ale to let it taste more “Scottish-style”. Just don’t expect something too traditional, as we are talking about Brewdog!
They added to the usual malts they use for ReAle the Pale Ale Marris Otter (one of the finest English barley malts) and a peat-smoked malt (the one they usually use to make Whisky) and they used a Scottish yeast. Also fermentation and ageing will have a Scottish twist, as after the first three days they put the beer into the wooden vats just to add some more smoked flavour.
What will come next? They can’t tell yet, but for now we are all going to wear a kilt…

Rare release - Brewed April
The process involved a massive amount of research followed by a test batch in Rome with the 3 brewers. Each brewer then went away to brew a batch in a slightly different way. Birra Del Borgo in Terracotta.. the result will be available from Jan 2013. we loved it!

Anniversario 7 follows some big footsteps from previous years anniversary beers all rated in the high 90's on Rate Beer. This does not disappoint and is definitely a peculiar beer and among the most waited for in their range.
Considering how much everybody loved last year version, ReAle 6 Anniversario, they decided to keep its main features. Using the same malts from their classic ReAle and an interesting hops’ mix (which they added with a continuous hopping process during the boil, combined with dry hopping during the ageing) coming from the different Continents: Hallertau Saphir from Europe, Amarillo from America, Nelson Sauvin from Oceania and Sorachi Ace from Asia.
But Africa was missing… so they decided to add an alternative ingredient from this continent: roiboos (Aspalathus linearis), a sort of bush coming from South Africa. Its leaves are used to brew a kind of herbal tea also adding spices – in this case black pepper and orange zest. They also added a mix of cinnamon and other spices coming from Zanzibar. This gave an intense and nice aroma, with scents of tropical fruit and citrus.
But it’s not finished yet! they also made a Special Edition (or we should say, a double special!), the “7 oak aged” matured in wooden barrels. Enjoy! (we will try and get our hands on this one as well)!
Don't miss out as this will not last long and we could only get a limited number of cases
